Matcha is rich in catechins, a class of plant compounds found in tea that is known to be a natural antioxidants. Matcha concentration of the epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) catechin is 3 times higher that the largest literature value for other green teas.

Due to Matcha being so high in antioxidants, studies have shown that in mice on a high fat diet who were given Matcha, had significantly lower blood glucose levels as well as lower cholesterol levels. Evidence of this study also suggest that because Matcha is water soluble, it is thought to play an important role in the suppression of diet-induced high levels of lipid and glucose levels.

Caffeine content per Organic Matcha serving?

The Quality of Matcha plays a huge influence.

Zen’s Organic Matcha is roughly 40-50 milligrams of caffeine and because of phytonutrients (especially L-theanine) the body’s absorption of caffeine many people typically experience a three hour flow of energy. After tealeaves are plucked they are steamed or pan fired. This is to inactivate the enzymes that would otherwise degrade the tea. The tealeaves are then rolled to squeeze the juices to the surface of the leaf. Then the leaves are dried in high-temperature air to reduce moisture.
