Mullein Leaf, botanical name Verbascum thapsus L. is a medicinal plant readily found in roadsides, meadows and pasture lands. According to Phytotherapy Research: An International Journal Devoted to Pharmacological and Toxicological Evaluation of Natural Product Derivatives this plant can be used to treat the following:
- pulmonary problems,
- inflammatory diseases,
- spasmodic coughs,
- migraine headaches.
Mullein leaf can be brewed for 2-3 minutes and then consumed for sore throats or it can be brewed for longer to be made into a tonic.
“This medicinal herb contains various chemical constituents like saponins, iridoid and phenylethanoid glycosides, flavonoids, vitamin C and minerals. It is famous in various communities worldwide for the treatment of various disorders of both humans and animals aliments. A number of pharmacological activities such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer, antimicrobial, antiviral, antihepatotoxic and anti-hyperlipidemic activity have been ascribed to this plant. The plant is used to treat tuberculosis also, earache and bronchitis.”
