Houjicha is a traditional Japanese roasted green tea. Houjicha is low in caffeine, known to have wonderful benefits for heart health.
Hōujicha is often made from the last harvest of the season. Unlike other Japanese green teas, Houjicha is roasted in a porcelain pot over charcoal; most Japanese teas are steamed. This tea is fired at a high temperature, altering the leaf color tints from green to reddish brown. “Green tea is a widely consumed beverage and its origins date back thousands of years in China. The legendary Chinese emperor, Shen Nung, discovered the detoxifying and health-maintaining properties of green tea around 2700 B.C. In recent years, green tea is being widely studied for its beneficial effect in the treatment and prevention of human diseases. It is considered to be anti-inflammative, anti-oxidative, anti-mutagenic, and anti-carcinogenic and can prevent cardiac disorders.”
