Does Tea Expire?
YES, but it depends.
The Zen’s Tea House position on tea expiration is: “it depends. If the tea is stored in a cool, dry place then it will last for at least a couple years.” Although tea does not normally become toxic to consume, it may lose it’s flavor, strength, and aroma over time which lowers it’s overall quality. a fresh tea can be preserved by properly by storing it in an airtight, cool,and dry container.
Black, oolong, and herbal teas last longer than green and white teas, which causes it to lose its quality more quickly. One of the reasons that Zen’s Tea House tea is recognized as having higher quality tea is that we sell our tea within a few weeks of receiving our shipments. Time is a factor.
