Nettle has been used traditionally as a diuretic and laxative since ancient Greek times. It has also seen used by herbalists for the treatment of urinary tract infections, problems urinating due to an enlarged prostate, and in the treatment of joint ailments. Some use the aerial (above ground) parts in the treatment of anemia, to invigorate and strengthen the blood, and topically, as a treatment for joint and muscle aches, oily scalp, oily hair and to treat hair loss (alopecia).
Take care to use if you have a diabetic condition, high blood pressure, or kidney problems. DO NOT USE IF PREGNANT. Nettle can stimulate uterine contractions and as such is considered likely unsafe during pregnancy. Consult with a lactation specialist before use during breastfeeding. Do not use if you take Lithium, sedative medication or Warfarin, as nettle may interact with your medication.
